There are many laws that govern townships, but the two main laws dealing with township administration and governance are: General township laws, the Revised Statutes of 1846, R.S. of 1846 (Chapter 41 of the Michigan Compiled Laws) Charter Township Act, (Chapter 42 of the Michigan Compiled Laws) All Michigan laws are available to the public on the free, searchable Michigan Legislature website . The laws can be searched by keyword, or Michigan Compiled Laws (MCL) number, such as "41.721" or "42.8". There are additional statutory requirements with which townships must comply. Procedures for the township’s financial administration, such as budgets, accounting, investments and deposits, are closely regulated by the state. Township meetings must comply with Michigan’s Open Meetings Act (MCL 15.261, et seq.), and township records must be stored and made available in conformance with specific laws, such as the Freedom of Information Act (MCL 15.231, et seq.)

Look for the Township Park sign on the left to turn down the gravel road to the campground. The park features 47 campsites, accommodating both RVs and tents, with: Picnic tables & fire pits at every site Electric hook-ups at half of the sites Outhouses & two fresh water spigots Access to hiking trails and a public beach Please note: The campground is located in a residential area. Drive carefully, watch for wildlife and pedestrians, and respect all posted rules and quiet hours. Look for the Township Park sign on the left, which marks the entrance to a gravel road leading to the park. Please note that cell phone service is usually accessible from the ferry, but not everywhere on the island, including on the route to the campground. Please make a note of directions and contact information before arriving. Amenities Drummond Island Township Campground offers a quiet and scenic retreat surrounded by natural beauty, perfect for a relaxing escape into the outdoors. The 43-site campground accommodates both tents and RVs up to 31 feet, with about half of the sites offering electric hookups. Each campsite includes a picnic table and a private fire pit, and the park also offers the following shared amenities for all campers: Pit toilets Two freshwater spigots for drinking water A small covered pavilion, great for group gatherings or shelter on rainy days Rocky shoreline areas ideal for wading, rock hunting, or simply taking in the lake viewsA sandy beach, perfect for swimming and relaxing A sandy beach, perfect for swimming and relaxing A boat launch (without dock) to launch fishing boats, canoes, kayaks , & paddleboards For larger boats, a DNR State Boat Launch is available in Maxton Bay on State Park Road off of Maxton. Private boat launches are also available for a fee at several locations on the island. There are several grocery stores and restaurants within a couple of miles of the campground. Additional options can be found in other areas around the island, making it easy to grab supplies or enjoy a meal out during your stay. Nature Trails at Township Park One of the campground’s standout features is its direct access to the Drummond Island Heritage Trail , a peaceful, wooded path system ideal for walking, hiking, and enjoying the island’s natural beauty. Along the trail, you'll find interpretive signs installed through a local grant program. These signs share insights about the island’s wildlife, ecology, and cultural history, adding an educational layer to your outdoor experience. The trail is part of a broader network supported and maintained by Drummond Island Silent Sports, a dedicated volunteer group that promotes non-motorized recreation across the island.   • RECYCLING/TRASH REMOVAL | Ditwsp

    Recycling Cardboard, glass, plastic, paper and aluminum can be recycled on the island. Please do not put plastic bags of any kind in the recycling trailers. The blue recycling trailer for everything except cardboard is located between the ambulance garage and the ice rink on Pine Street near the corner of Townline Rd. The blue trailer is taken off the island and emptied on Monday & Thursday mornings . Otherwise, recycling is available 24/7. Cardboard recycling goes in the white semi-trailer located next to the ice skating rink. All cardboard must be broken down and stacked in the rear of the cardboard trailer to maximize capacity. Please read recycling directions on each trailer before using. Trash Removal Garbage collection on Drummond Island is handled by private companies, not by the township. Property owners choose the service that best fits their needs. GFL Environmental provides dumpster service for businesses and residents who prefer an on-site dumpster, with weekly pickup. Contact (906) 635-3380 or visit gflenv.com. D.I. Garbologist offers residential curbside cart pickup, available weekly or every other week, and will also operate the island’s new public transfer station. Call (906) 493-5926 for more information. If you do not have curbside service or are visiting for the day, please take your garbage home or use one of the current gas station drop-off sites. GFL disposal bags ($5 each) must be used for these dumpsters. This system will soon change. Because of new monitoring regulations, gas station drop-off sites will close to the public. A new monitored transfer station, operated by D.I. Garbologist, will open at 33648 E Johnswood Road in November 2025 and will become the only public drop-off location beginning January 2026. GFL bags will still be accepted, and D.I. Garbologist disposal bags will be available for purchase ($5 each or 11 for $50). The Johnswood Road site will feature convenient drive-up service for easy disposal. Learn more in the attached flyer.
