​

Drummond Island Township is seeking qualified individuals for the appointed position of Township Treasurer at the Township Hall. The position is available beginning August 1, 2026, and will be filled by appointment of the Township Board.

​

The Township Treasurer is a statutory position responsible for the financial management and record-keeping of Drummond Island Township. The Treasurer works closely with the Township Board, Clerk, and department heads to ensure accurate, timely, and transparent financial operations in compliance with Michigan law.

​

Position Details
Position Type: Appointed, statutory position
Term: Serves the remainder of the current term


Available: Beginning August 1, 2026


Compensation: Set by the Township Board

​

Key Responsibilities
Receiving, receipting, and disbursing all township funds
Maintaining and reconciling all township bank accounts
Preparing and issuing tax bills and collecting property taxes
Investing public funds in accordance with Michigan law
Preparing financial reports and supporting the annual audit process
Coordinating with the Township Assessor on tax roll data
Attending monthly Township Board meetings

Preferred Qualifications
No single background is required. The Township Board will consider the full picture of each applicant's experience and qualifications. The following would be particularly helpful:


Experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or financial management
Familiarity with BS&A software or similar municipal financial systems
Prior experience in municipal or township government
Knowledge of Michigan property tax law and the General Property Tax Act
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel

Residency Requirement
Appointees must be a registered elector of Drummond Island Township at the time of appointment and throughout their term of service, per Michigan law.

​

Appointment Process
This is an appointed position. The Township Board will review all letters of interest and resumes and may conduct interviews prior to making an appointment. The appointed individual will serve the remainder of the current term.

(Custodial Technician)

Drummond Island Township is seeking applicants for a part-time permanent Custodial Technician position at the Township Hall.

​

This role is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for employees and visitors.

​

Position Details
Position Type: Part-time, permanent
Compensation: $25.00 per hour
Reports To: Maintenance Coordinator

​

Key Responsibilities

General Cleaning
Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors throughout the building
Dust and clean desks, tables, chairs, and other surfaces
Clean and sanitize restrooms
Clean windows, glass doors, and other glass surfaces
Empty trash and replace liners

​

Facility Maintenance
Maintain common areas including hallways, lobbies, and meeting rooms
Store and maintain cleaning supplies and equipment
Report maintenance or repair needs to the Maintenance Coordinator

​

Physical Requirements
Ability to perform routine physical cleaning tasks
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required

Drummond Island Township is accepting applications for multiple part-time, seasonal Golf Course Clubhouse Attendant positions at the Drummond Island Township Golf Course.

​

Clubhouse Attendants support daily golf course operations by providing customer service to golfers, maintaining a clean and welcoming clubhouse, preparing and managing golf carts, assisting with merchandise sales, and supporting tournaments or special events. These positions report to the Golf Course Superintendent and work a variety of shifts based on weather, course traffic, and scheduling needs, including weekdays, weekends, and occasional evenings.

​

This staffing approach allows the township to provide consistent coverage while offering flexible, shift-based seasonal work.

Township Assessor

Drummond Island Township is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Township Assessor. The Assessor is responsible for administering all assessing functions for the Township, including valuation, classification, and maintenance of property records for approximately 3,500 tax parcels.

​

The Assessor performs all duties in compliance with the Michigan General Property Tax Act and Michigan Department of Treasury requirements and works closely with township officials, county equalization, and state agencies.

​

Compensation
Salary range: $45,000 to $60,000 annually depending on certification and experience

Key Responsibilities

Assessment Administration
Preparation, maintenance, and certification of annual assessment and tax rolls. Determination of true cash value, assessed value, and taxable value of all real and personal property. Field inspections, property reviews, and new construction assessments. Maintenance of parcel data, ownership records, and legal descriptions.

​

Valuation and Analysis
Analysis of real estate sales, market trends, and cost data. Conducting mass appraisal and individual property valuation. Participation in county and state equalization processes and compliance with ratio studies and valuation standards.

​

Public Service and Appeals
Responding to taxpayer inquiries regarding assessments and exemptions. Participation in Board of Review proceedings. Preparation and defense of assessments in appeals and Michigan Tax Tribunal cases. Processing of Principal Residence Exemptions and personal property statements.

​

Records and Technology
Maintenance of assessing software, databases, and GIS systems when applicable. Preparation of required reports for township, county, and state agencies. Coordination with the Township Treasurer and Clerk for accurate tax billing.

​

Professional Responsibilities
Maintaining required certification and continuing education. Attending required meetings, training, and office hours as determined by the Township Board. Advising township officials on assessment-related matters and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and deadlines.

​

Required Qualifications
Michigan Certified Assessing Officer (MCAO) certification or the ability to obtain required certification within an agreed timeframe. Knowledge of the Michigan General Property Tax Act and assessing standards. Experience with municipal or mass appraisal. Proficiency with assessing or mapping software. Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and meet statutory deadlines. Valid Michigan driver's license and reliable transportation.

​

Preferred Qualifications
MAAO, MMAO, or other advanced certification. Experience managing large assessment rolls. Experience with Board of Review and Tax Tribunal proceedings. Experience serving as a contract or multi-jurisdiction assessor.

​

Work Environment
This position includes a combination of office work, field inspections, and remote work. The Assessor must maintain regular availability to township residents and attend required meetings such as Board of Review sessions. Travel for training and professional development may be required.
