Next event: October 17, 2026 Drummond Island Community Days is a new, twice-yearly event focused on bringing Islanders together to work, connect, and take care of the place we all call home. Community Days is about more than clean-up — it’s about Islanders showing up for each other and for this island we all love. Watch this page and our social media for updates on how you can participate in our next event. May 2, 2026 Community Days Recap Around 50 Islanders showed up on May 2 to take care of the place we all call home. Volunteers worked across the island that morning, from roadsides and ditches to the tennis courts, then gathered back at the Frank J. Sasso Township Hall for a community luncheon prepared by the Drummond Island Homemakers. The morning started at township hall with check-in, welcome bags, and a chance to catch up before heading out. From the roadsides to the tennis courts, volunteers spread out across the island to clean, sweep, and haul. After the morning's work, volunteers gathered back at the township hall for lunch prepared and served by the Drummond Island Homemakers.. A huge thank you to everyone who made this day possible. From the early brainstorming and planning to collecting registration forms, packing welcome bags, organizing groups, and hauling supplies, this took a lot of hands. A special thank you to the Beautification Committee for the months of work that went into making Community Days happen, and to the Drummond Island Homemakers for the lunch that brought everyone back together at the end of the morning. Thank you to every Islander who showed up and put in the work. This is what Community Days is about. Outstanding Citizen of the Year Award Drummond Island Township is proud to announce the return of the Outstanding Citizen of the Year award, a tradition that had been paused since 2006. Reinstated by the Township Board, this award honors individuals whose steady service, care, and commitment quietly strengthen our island community. The 2025 Outstanding Citizen of the Year is Darlene Skinner. Darlene’s impact can be seen across Drummond Island, most recently through her dedication to the Drummond Island Cemetery. After two years of effort, she secured a new cemetery sign crafted from stone originally cut for the Soo Locks, creating a lasting marker of history and respect. This spring, she also organized a headstone cleanup, giving special attention to those whose families are no longer able to do so, while sharing stories that honored the people and families who helped shape this island. Beyond the cemetery, Darlene serves on multiple committees and community groups, always stepping forward with care, pride, and a belief in Drummond Island’s future. We also recognize this year’s other nominees, Pam and Tom Ellis, Celia Bias, Pastor Isaacson, Candis Collick, and Jeanne May, along with the many residents who contribute quietly and consistently. Our community thrives because of people like them. Congratulations to Darlene Skinner, the 2025 Outstanding Citizen of the Year. Blue Recycling Trailer The blue recycling trailer is located next to the ice rink off of Pine Street near the intersection of Townline Road. It is available for recycling 24/7 except when it is off the island for emptying (Wednesdays in the winter, Mondays and Thursdays in the busier season). Accepted materials Glass bottles and jars, any color, no lids Metal cans, aerosol cans, aluminum foil, and metal lids Newspapers, envelopes, magazines, and paper bags Plastic containers #1–7, clean only, no plastic bags or sheets Not accepted Garbage, syringes, or medical waste Plastic that is not a #1-7 labeled container (i.e. no plastic wrap) Styrofoam, vinyl siding, PVC, toys, furniture, or paper cups Window glass, dishes, ceramics, light bulbs, batteries, or electronics If you are unsure about an item, please leave it out to help protect the success of the recycling program.
